Looters

Much devastation has been brought on by the recent catastrophe, Hurricane Sandy. While you might think such a disaster would bring people together, it has brought out the worst in some people. Looters have taken over in parts of New York, stealing whatever they can from stores that are vulnerable from storm damages. This is all too common in today's world. People have learned to take advantage of other people's bad situations and that is wrong. While some people may take food, others are stealing things that they do not need. Stuff such as televisions and other electronics. People also have broken into houses without power and smashed car windows in to steal from. Police said, "In Jersey City, Carteret, Glen Ridge, Ventnor and Seaside Heights, there were even more doors kicked in, car windows smashed and storefronts with spidered glass." People are not stealing because they are in need. They are stealing to cause even more havoc throughout the city. In today's world it is common for people to be radical and completely unconcerned with the needs and well being of others. You think about yourself and only yourself and don't waste a thought on how your actions can effect the people around you. It is sad to me how far people can go to satisfy there own selfish desires.

Don't Text and Drive

A major issue that has evolved in recent times is excessive cellphone use while driving. Most people, including myself, are guilty of texting while behind the wheel or checking a received message while driving, even if no reply is sent. That being said, it is very dangerous and most people do not understand how dangerous it can be. Not only can you get yourself into a devastating accident it can also endanger your life and the lives and safety of others around you.
On June 7, 2012 Aaron Deveau made a decision that would drastically change his life. While texting on his phone, police reported to the Haverhill, Mass. (The Blaze/AP) that Deveau "crossed the center line on a Haverhill street and crashed head-on into Bowley’s vehicle." In this accident 55 year old Donald Bowley, father of three, was killed on impact. In response to the accident, Deveau was convicted with motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation while texting. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years behind bars. Now he must live with his regret everyday of his life. He stated outside of court "This has been giving me a lot of pain. There are no words to describe."
The final question we all should consider about texting and driving is, Is it really worth it or can it wait? Texting while driving is so very dangerous because of three factors. One being, you take your eyes off of the road. Secondly, you take one hand off the wheel. Thirdly, you take your mind off driving to think about what you are going to say to the person you are talking to. These are the key reasons as to why it is so irresponsible and so dangerous to text and drive. People should understand that they are responsible, while driving any type of vehicle, for their safety and the safety of others around them. Accidents related to texting while driving are all too common and the solution is simple. Just don't do it. It isn't worth the risk.

"Girl Found Alive Among Bodies"

Crime scene investigators should have correct training before being allowed to work on cases. On September, 5 2012 two British woman and a man were found dead in their car in the foothills of the Alps in Eastern France. The investigators sent to the scene, however failed to notice a young girl cowering under the legs of a dead woman. She was, and had been, alive and hiding for 8 hours while the police investigators had failed to notice her.
If the investigators on scene would have immediately accounted for and checked all the bodies, this 8 year old would have not laid in terror for 8 hours straight. Eric Mailliud told reporters that the child was "probably terrorized, completely concealed, completely immobile amid the corpses." Understandably, if a child is so terrified that she does not move for 8 hours, it is easy to assume the worse considering the circumstance, but it was also stated that a heat sensing camera failed to pick up her presence. How can that be? A malfunction perhaps? Or maybe it was the fault of someone working on the scene. Seemingly, if the investigators on scene would have had proper training they would have been able to identify the survived victims immediately. They would have known proper means of checking each body found to determine its state and the girl would have been given proper medical and psychological care as soon as they arrived. It is sad that this small girl hid alone and terrified for 8 hours because of mistakes these investigators made.

September 11th Inference Paragraph

Some people may claim that rebuilding the world trade centers is a bad idea because it is leaving us open for being attacked again. I believe however that they are rebuilding the towers not only because it was a necessary building for our economy, but because it will display the pride and and bravery of our nation. It is said in the info-graph that the new WTC tower will be 1,776 feet while the previous tower was only 1,368 feet high. Also this new tower is being made with high grade concrete and steel. It is being made bigger and better. If we were to not rebuild the tower it would portray that our nation was to afraid of being attacked again and it would be prohibiting necessary economic growth for our nation.

My Reading Bucket List

1. Unwind by Neal Shusterman
This book seems like it has a good plot and story line. The main theme of the book sounds interesting and I hope that I will be a good book to read.

2. Gone Girl  by Gillian Flynn
This book seemed good because it is a type of police murder mystery novel. I like to read mystery books because the usually do not have dull chapters. The plot sounded very good.

3. Slide by Jill Hathaway
This is the first book and has a second one coming out next year. It has a very captivating story line. The main character has the ability to "slide" into another persons mind and witness what is happening to them, in that moment, through their eyes.

4. Monument 14 by Emmy Labourne
In this book 14 kids become trapped inside a superstore. While inside major natural disasters and chemical clouds and devastating the outside world. They are trapped inside and all of their family and friends trapped outside.

5. Divergent by Veronica Roth
This book had a lot of pretty good reviews, so that is why I picked it for my Bucket List. In this book there is a controlled world and there are five different "fractions" of people.

6. Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick
The book Ashed is about Alex, a sixteen year old girl, who is caught in the woods alone when a strange phenomena occurs. She is left disoriented with no way of knowing what has happened and who else it has effected.

7. The Host by Stephanie Meyer
I have been planning to read this book for awhile but I haven't ever gotten around to it. Its plot has always sounded interesting, but it is not on my list of top books to read.

8. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
This book is a typical teen love story that may have a twist to it. This is why I out this book on the list.

9. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
The title of this book sounded familiar to me so that probably means that somebody, in the past, has suggested this book to me. It is another love story by the same author as above.

10. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
This sounded like a good book to me because it is a fiction book with a lot of good reviews.

The Titanic

At the time of impact I was relaxing in the Dining area of the ship with my mother, father and my brother. We were startled when the ship shook and the eloquent piano music abruptly stopped. We all were tense, but some of the staff assured us we were fine and that we should relax, as they calmly went about duties again. It was just a short while after that, maybe an hour or so later that we were going to walk the deck of the ship before retreating to our rooms for the night. As we walked outside we noticed panic slowly starting to arise. People acting frantic, people scared, and workers ignoring any passenger that demanded information. My father was becoming stern and my mother anxious. They whispered between one another words I could not hear. Suddenly, men started pulling at the ropes of the lifeboats and yelling, "The ship is sinking! Women and children first." I remember shuddering at those words. What would become of my father and my brother? Would they be saved? I saw the rockets being fired. Will help come? The moments following were frantic and rushed. It was a blur of panic, fear, and anger. I was angry we had not been warned sooner and fearful of what might happen to my family. My mother and I were escorted to a life boat. As soon as we were pushed in, the boat started to lower towards the water. My mother screamed and reached for her husband, but he only kissed her and told her he loved her and me. All I could do was cry because I knew the fate of them that I loved. I was in shock. How could I ever forgive the men to blame for this. In this moment, with my emotions raw, I could not. In this moment all I could do was stare at the "unsinkable ship" falling to its grave beneath the waves. All I could do was pray that the people I loved would somehow be spared. Forgiveness was years away.

Does A Nazi Soldier Deserve Pity?

I do not think that he deserves to be pittied. He murdered innocent people most of which were women and children. He said to the Jewish man, "The screams from the house were horrible. Dense smoke poured out and choked us..." He watched those people die. In that moment did he pity them? Did he feel remorse? Maybe he did after the incident had occured, but he did nothing to get away from or stop the awful situation while he was in it. He also said, "No one asked what the murder had to do with the Russians." They murdered innocent people for practically no reason at all. Maybe this man can be forgiven later on, but the decision he made was his own. He can not go back and undo it. Because of that, I do not believe that somebody should feel sorry for him.

Forgiveness

Who deserves forgiveness? As imperfect people we find it easy to compare our good to others bad, not noticing or mentioning our wrong. In our eyes as normal people, it is very easy to look at the extreme bad people do and condemn them for it. Forgiveness in my opinion is not forgetting the wrong it is accepting that somebody messed up and willing to overlook that in there lives if they ask that from you. It is not dismissing the consequences for their actions, because consequences are definately derserved. An unmarried woman that continues to use coccaine while she is pregnant, understanding it will bring harm to her unborn child is wrong. That is easy for everyone to agree on. It is easy for people to say, "I would never do something that bad." Truthfully, however until someone is in that situation and experiences all the same things as what a woman like that experienced you would never know what you would do, or how you would handle the situation. She will pay for the decision she made. She will no doubt feel regret and suffer for what she did, she will pay the consequences, but in my opinion she should be forgivin. People should except that she messed up, as we all mess up.
