Don't Text and Drive
A major issue that has evolved in recent times is excessive cellphone use while driving. Most people, including myself, are guilty of texting while behind the wheel or checking a received message while driving, even if no reply is sent. That being said, it is very dangerous and most people do not understand how dangerous it can be. Not only can you get yourself into a devastating accident it can also endanger your life and the lives and safety of others around you.
On June 7, 2012 Aaron Deveau made a decision that would drastically change his life. While texting on his phone, police reported to the Haverhill, Mass. (The Blaze/AP) that Deveau "crossed the center line on a Haverhill street and crashed head-on into Bowley’s vehicle." In this accident 55 year old Donald Bowley, father of three, was killed on impact. In response to the accident, Deveau was convicted with motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation while texting. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years behind bars. Now he must live with his regret everyday of his life. He stated outside of court "This has been giving me a lot of pain. There are no words to describe."The final question we all should consider about texting and driving is, Is it really worth it or can it wait? Texting while driving is so very dangerous because of three factors. One being, you take your eyes off of the road. Secondly, you take one hand off the wheel. Thirdly, you take your mind off driving to think about what you are going to say to the person you are talking to. These are the key reasons as to why it is so irresponsible and so dangerous to text and drive. People should understand that they are responsible, while driving any type of vehicle, for their safety and the safety of others around them. Accidents related to texting while driving are all too common and the solution is simple. Just don't do it. It isn't worth the risk.
